I’m a 23 year old female with a hellgina. A normal period for me is a veritable biblical flood. I’m chronicling the process of figuring out what the fuck is wrong with me, as each day and each procedure passes.

What usually goes down is, I will have an extremely heavy period for anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months. I damn near bleed to death.

Blood tests have ruled out hormonal, thyroid, and sexually transmitted diseases. Transabdominal and transvaginal ultrasounds ruled out PCOS. Nobody has touched endometriosis, but we’re jumping that hurdle next. I’m not fat enough for it to be my weight. My vagina and cervix and all of that look and feel fine, everything is where it should be.

I’m just a medical mystery. An anemic medical mystery. My hemoglobin often drops to very low levels, 8.5 has been the median range.

As of May 2011, there was a mass in my uterus. It is most likely a thickened part of my uterine lining. I will be going back in soon to have another ultrasound.

I have had irregular periods since I was 12 years old, but despite what every OBGYN has told me, I have yet to “grow out of it”.
